Accomplice, Inc. offers you the Accomplice Software that runs on your computer, and the Accomplice Service that allows your Accomplice Software to connect with others over the internet. We care deeply about your privacy. We have designed Accomplice to provide you with great value, affordably, while keeping your information more private than you’re probably used to – more private than most email systems and more private than most web sites.
Your content – the activities, notes and information you create while using Accomplice – stays on your own computer, where you can control who can access it. If you are running Accomplice on a U3 Smart™ USB flash drive, your information is kept on that drive. If you have specified an alternate backup location for your information, a copy of your content is also kept there.
If you choose to share some of your content with others, only the content you choose to share is transmitted, securely, to the Accomplice Service for secure forwarding to the people you shared it with.
A minimal amount of personally identifiable information, such as your name and email, is collected by the Accomplice Service as part of registration. We will not share that information with any third parties without your explicit consent, unless required by law. We will treat your personally identifiable information with the utmost respect and only use it ourselves in certain limited circumstances, such as to help solve technical issues, to inform you of important updates, or occasionally to ask for your feedback. We provide mechanisms by which you may update this information.
So that we can improve the product, the Accomplice software collects some general information about your usage of the product, such as how often you use certain features. This information does not include any of your content. It is periodically and automatically sent to us, to help us improve the software. We also collect technical information when you encounter an error in the software, to allow us to diagnose and fix the problem. This technical information does not include any of your content, unless you explicitly send us content and ask us to use it in diagnosing the problem.
As you use Accomplice, the software automatically chooses a few keywords from your activities and notes and submits them anonymously to highly-reputable advertiser networks that have partnered with Accomplice to provide relevant, useful text links. It works very much like the major Search web sites which provide you some sponsored links when you search for certain words, except that we don’t use any tracking mechanisms such as cookies. To further protect your privacy, no personally identifiable information, nor any other content, is transmitted to those networks. Clicking on the text links will simply direct you to the advertiser’s site (where the advertiser’s privacy policy is in effect). We do not receive information on what keywords were sent or what ads were delivered. We can offer you Accomplice for free because we are paid by the ad network when you find one of these links useful enough to click on it. You may choose to not send keywords to the ad networks, and not receive or display sponsored links, by upgrading to the paid version of Accomplice.
